Newzine, Victims of Sexual Objectification in Games...Adore "Actively Addresses Inappropriate Content"

In the wake of controversy over the sexualization of PUBG's Newzins character by some players, Crafton and Adore have responded.

On the 20th, game company Crafton and Newzine agency Adore said, "Recently, some users have been creating and sharing inappropriate posts using Newzine characters. This behavior is inconsistent with the brand image and values of both parties and is offensive to all fans," said a joint statement.

The companies said they will take appropriate action in the near future against items worn by Newzine characters that are not in line with the intent of the collaboration. "All users are expected to abide by PUBG's Community Guidelines. These guidelines prohibit the posting of inappropriate content, and violations may result in a ban from the game." "We will remove the offending post and the user may be restricted from community activities," the companies said.

"The collaboration between Crafton and Adore was intended to combine our strengths to create new content and provide fans with something different," said Crafton and Adore, "and we agreed in advance that the costumes would not exceed the level of an idol's stage outfit, as they were created in accordance with the game's review rating (15).

"We were unable to fully anticipate the potential for some users to undermine the purpose of this collaboration by inappropriately using existing in-game content," he continued, "Both ADOR, whose mission is to protect artists and respect fandom, and Crafton, whose mission is to provide users with innovative and enjoyable experiences through game content, share a common goal of prioritizing artist protection and a healthy and positive community culture. We would like to reiterate that the protection of artists has always been a top priority in our collaboration."

Previously, Crafton collaborated with Adore to release characters based on Newzynx members in the game PUBG, which sparked controversy when some users dressed the characters in revealing outfits and made sexually harassing comments.

◆ Below is the full statement from Crafton and Adore.

Dear PUBG and Newzine fans,

First of all, we'd like to thank you for your overwhelming support and interest in the PUBG and Newzine collaboration. We are very pleased to announce that this collaboration will provide a valuable opportunity for both brands to get closer to each other's fans.

PUBG

However, we have recently experienced instances where some users have used Newzine characters to create and share inappropriate posts. This behavior is inconsistent with the brand image and values of both parties, and is offensive to all of our fans.

In response, KRAFTON and ADOR would like to make the following statements:

In-game actions regarding Newzynx character cosmetics: In the near future, we will take appropriate action against cosmetics that do not meet the intent of the collaboration. This will help us create a healthier environment in the game and ensure that all players can enjoy the game safely. We will provide more details about the actions soon.

Community guidelines: All users are expected to abide by PUBG's Community Guidelines, which prohibit the posting of inappropriate content and may result in a ban from the game.

Response: KRAFTON and ADOR take these situations seriously and will aggressively respond to inappropriate content. Offending posts will be removed, and the user may be restricted from community activity.

We ask for your help: We need your cooperation to maintain a healthy and positive community culture. If you see inappropriate content, please report it immediately.

The collaboration was intended to combine our strengths to bring new content to the table and provide fans with something different and fun. We started this collaboration with the understanding that the costumes would be in accordance with the game's review rating (15) and would not exceed the level of an idol stage costume. However, we did not fully anticipate the potential for some users to use existing in-game content inappropriately and undermine the purpose of this collaboration.

With ADOR's mission to protect artists and respect for fandom at the forefront of our values, and KRAFTON's mission to provide innovative and enjoyable experiences for users through game content, we both shared a common goal of prioritizing the protection of artists and a healthy and positive community culture. We would like to reiterate that we have always prioritized the protection of artists in our collaborations.

We value our fans and the community we build together, and we sincerely apologize that this situation occurred, and we will do our best to avoid disappointing you in the future through more thorough preparation and review.
