'Pyramid Game' Jang Da-ah erases 'Big Sister Jang Won-young' tag by herself [Star Empathy]

Actress Jang Da-ah has proven her worth. He became the center of the 'Pyramid Game' craze with his remarkable villain performance.

Until the beginning of last year, when news of Jang Da-ah's debut in the entertainment industry first broke, the public's view of him was more of a concern. There were even some people who made unfounded accusations and rumors about his background. Some were quick to post envy and jealousy-filled comments about his background, suggesting that he had joined the agency just because he was the younger sister of fellow IZONE member Jang Won-young, and the criticisms only grew louder when he was offered a role in a drama.

However, aside from these unwarranted accusations, Zhang Diao had never acted in any of his previous works, so there were still question marks about his acting skills.

Then, on the 29th of last month, when the premiere of "The Pyramid Game" was released, the tide turned 180 degrees, as praise began to pour in for Zhang Diao's perfect portrayal of "game designer" Baek Ha-lin.

The Pyramid Game is based on the webtoon of the same name, so the setting is quite dramatic and the dialog is often embarrassing to write. Nevertheless, Jang Da-ah, Kim Ji-yeon (Park So-eul), Shin Seul-ki (Seo Do-ah), and others lead the drama with their immersive performances, and the viewers don't even feel the slightest hint of boredom. Especially in a survival drama like this, the villain is the most important part of the story, and Jang Da-ah does a great job with the role. The wrong villain can break the tension and unbalance the film, but Zhang Diao's delicate portrayal of Baek Harin, whose dual, psychopathic personality is sometimes chilling and sometimes warm, holds the center of Pyramid Game together. For example, the scene in which Baek Ha-lin removes his mask and threatens Myung Ja-eun (Lee Chae-bin) was described as "creepy" by viewers.

Thanks to these performances, "Pyramid Game" has been ranked No. 1 in terms of weekly paid subscribers on Teevee and has received favorable reviews from overseas media such as BBC-NME.

Park So-yeon, director of 'Pyramid Game,' said at the production presentation ahead of the release, "All the actors except Kim Ji-yeon were cast through auditions. The main focus was how much she resembled the original character in appearance, behavior, and voice, and Zhang Diao was Baek Ha-lin herself." True to his words, Zhang Diao has captivated viewers' attention with her performance as Baek Harin herself. Most rookie actors would be criticized for their eyes, voice, tone, or ability to digest lines, but Jang Da-ah succeeded in proving her worth by receiving a passing grade in all areas. We are looking forward to seeing what she will do as an actress in the future, as she has completely erased the label of "Jang Won-young's sister" through "Pyramid Game.
