Ok Taek-yeon Woo is taking on a new acting challenge in the Japanese Netflix series Soulmate.

Ok's agency 51K said, "Ok Taekyeon has confirmed her appearance in the Japanese Netflix series 'Soul Mate,' which is currently in production with the goal of airing next year," adding, "Ok Taekyeon will play the role of Korean boxer 'Hwang Yohan' and will visit fans in Japan and around the world."

"Soul Mate" tells the story of "Ryu" (Hayato Isomura), a man who left Japan after leaving everything behind, who is accidentally saved by "John" (Ok Taek-yeon) in a church in a foreign country, and how the two men, who are both shaken by their uncertain futures, heal and comfort each other over the course of 10 years in Berlin, Seoul, and Tokyo.

Written and directed by Hashizume Ki, a prolific novelist, screenwriter, director, and creator in Japan, and acted by Hayato Isomura, who has been recognized for his acting skills through his roles in films such as Lust and Moon, Ok Taek-yeon's global 17-day tour is especially significant as Ok Taek-yeon is making his first Japanese Netflix Original debut with Soulmate after the Japanese film Grand Maison Paris.

In the film, Ok will play the role of Hwang Yo-han, a Korean boxer who has been unable to take care of his wounds and gradually realizes the meaning of love and life through his encounter with Ryu, a Japanese woman, and will lead the center of the drama with his delicate acting skills.

Ok said, "I'm very excited to appear in the drama 'Soulmate'. There are so many characters and genres that I haven't played yet, so I wanted to expand my spectrum little by little and discover a new side of myself, and that's when I was offered 'Soulmate'. When I read the script, I was intrigued by the character of John, and when I finished the script, I was still thinking about his underlying deficiencies and pain, so I chose it. I've been dieting and practicing boxing since before filming, and I'm working hard to portray the character of John in an authentic way, so I hope the viewers will wait with anticipation."

Soulmate, which is expected to feature Ok's most different acting transformation to date, will premiere exclusively on Netflix worldwide in 2025.
