'Inside Out 2' cruises to a strong weekend , with a surprisingly strong showing

Disney Pixar Studios' animated feature 'Inside Out 2' is a big hit.

"Inside Out 2" remains at the top of the box office for the 17th day after its release with 164,672 admissions on Aug. 28, according to the Korean Film Council's integrated movie ticketing system. The cumulative number of moviegoers is 4.789 million. It is on the verge of breaking the 5 million mark.

In particular, according to local media such as Variety on Monday (Nov. 28), "Inside Out 2" has grossed $863.1 million (KRW 1.19 trillion) in ticket sales at movie theaters worldwide as of that date. It has grossed more than 1 trillion won in its first two weeks of release, surpassing the total ticket revenue of the first installment.

This makes "Inside Out 2" the 19th highest grossing animated film of all time, surpassing the $858.5 million (KRW 1,186.9 billion) gross of the first "Inside Out" film in 2015, and the 19th highest grossing animated film of all time.

Officials say it is on track to become the first movie this year to surpass $1 billion in worldwide earnings. In North America, the film has already surpassed 2013's "Frozen" ($410.8 million), which opened to $495 million after 14 days in theaters.

The movie tells the story of 13-year-old Riley, whose peaceful life is shattered and restarted when a new set of unfamiliar emotions - anxiety, embarrassment, boredom, and envy - appear in the emotion control center of her brain.
