Japan's Tokyo Dome, Newzines, and local media featured in the Daejeon Times

NewJeans

The local media has been all over NewJeans, the group that took the Tokyo Dome by storm. The front pages of major sports newspapers have been covered with photos of NewJeans (Minji, Hani, Daniel, Harin, and Hyein), and local media have been reporting on their performances in detail and giving them rave reviews.

Sankei Sports, Nikkan Sports, Daily Sports, and others devoted a full page to Bunnies Camp 2024 Tokyo Dome on the 28th, which was held on the 26th and 27th and ended with great success. It's not often that an overseas artist's performance fills up a whole page of a newspaper. It shows the status and popularity of Newzine in Japan.

Newspapers captured the excitement of the concert with headlines such as "The Goddesses continue to create new legends" (Sankei Sports), "Colorful costumes and spectacular dances rocked the venue, and fierce cheers rang out one after another" (Nikkan Sports), and "The five members of the group ascended to the holy Tokyo Dome, driven by fervent cheers" (Daily Sports).

Major sports newspapers had previously produced special editions featuring the group on the front page on both days they entered the Tokyo Dome. The newspapers, which were widely available at newsstands around the Tokyo Dome, sold like hotcakes, with some convenience stores running out of copies.

Local music publication Natalie captured the atmosphere in an article titled "Newzine met about 91,200 Bunnies (the name of the fandom) at the first Tokyo Dome performance." "K-pop artists usually have a translator MC for their local fan meetings, but the five members of NUJINS greeted the Bunnies in a mix of Korean, English, and Japanese without an interpreter," the article said.

Oricon News also highlighted the members' solo performances of original songs and Japanese covers, explaining that "Hani's performance of Seiko Matsuda's 'Blue Coral Reef' caused a stir on X (formerly Twitter), trending not only in Japan but also in Korea."

Oricon News continued, "The pop idol sang the 1980s idol song with a clear voice and a bright smile, putting the audience in a sweet mood," adding, "Even after the song ended and the lights went out, the Tokyo Dome was filled with jubilation as the aftermath of the shock continued."

Model Press noted the record for the shortest period of time (one year and 11 months) for an overseas artist to enter the Tokyo Dome, saying, "Newzynx captivated the Burnies by waving their hands until the end of the 150-minute performance."

Newzins' fever in Japan has also led to a rise in local music charts. On Spotify Japan's "Daily Top Songs" chart on Nov. 27, "Supernatural" was No. 14, up four spots from the previous day. The chart includes 11 songs from Newzine alone. Apple Music Japan's Top 100 also included nine songs, including "How Sweet" (No. 11) and "Supernatural" (No. 13).
